Planning your Camping Trip in Advance

Whether you are a seasoned camper or a beginning camper, planning in advance will allow you to have a much more enjoyable camping trip.  Camping is often seen as a cost-effective way to have an adventure or vacation; and sometime these trips can be spur-of-the-moment trips.  A little prior planning can make even a weekend trip go smoother and be a lot more fun.  You need to make sure you have everything you need; tents, sleeping bags, food and something to cook it on, like an outdoor grill.

With prior planning you will be able to choose a campground that has amenities your family will enjoy and make sure there is room for you when you get there.  Booking a campsite in advance will allow you to get a site with a waterfront view, or a site near the playground so kids can have some freedom.  This will give you time to plan side-trips to local attractions that will be not only fun for the whole family, but may be an educational adventure as well.  You can also get a feel for the area around where you will be camping; in case you need some emergency supplies, it’s always handy to know where the nearest grocery store or Wal-Mart is.

Making a check-list of supplies you need will make packing easier and you aren’t likely to forget necessities if you have a list.  You need to make sure you have enough and appropriate clothes for everyone; check the weather forecast for the area you are planning to visit to find out if sweaters and extra blankets will be needed.  Make sure you have any sporting equipment and clothing you may need; it would be a shame to visit a campground with an indoor waterpark and not have bathing suits for the family.

You should also think about what types of foods and drinks your family will need; you have to plan for breakfast, lunch and dinner for each day you plan to be a way. Make sure you have the proper utensils and cookware that can be used on a grill or over an open flame.  It is important to keep all perishable food cool, therefore, make sure you have enough cooler space and ice to last for the trip.  Pack a first aid kit, you never know when you’ll need a Band-Aid or an aspirin; and bug spray is something you certainly don’t want to be without.

With just a bit of planning your family can have a wonderful camping adventure.  You will be able to see any and all sights in the area and have a beautiful campsite where you can relax.  You will arrive at your campsite with everything you need to have a fun family camping trip.
